Shortly after the 2024 election, we started to receive calls and messages from our friends all across the country. Fellow LGBTQ+ youth like us were scared of being ostracized, reconsidering their college applications to schools in red states, or wondering if they were safe being who they are. It broke our hearts that youth could feel so afraid in their communities, especially amongst people that should care for them. It ought to be unacceptable to deny anyone an opportunity to live because of who they are. Unfortunately, that world has yet to exist.
The harsh truth is discrimination and hate still exist in our communities, especially with political leaders that seek to fan the flames instead of putting out the fires. As citizens and decent humans, it is necessary for us to find ways to support each other, especially over the next four years. The Trump administration poses an unparalleled threat to the rights and dignity of LGBTQ+ individuals across the country. We must band together to resist the people that want to tear us apart.
In times of adversity, community matters more than ever. This is our attempt to help build a safe, happy LGBTQ+ community.
We were shocked that our friends across the country struggled to find resources near them, even if they did exist. It seems incongruous to us that there has not been a central database made to track LGBTQ+ resources– accessibility can often be the barrier to someone receiving the help that they need. We decided to make that database. The resources on this site are sorted by region, type, and access (in-person, online, hybrid) for everyone to find support they need.
No one should feel alone in their journey, yet too many feel alienated by those around them. It is uncomfortable to feel different and downright terrifying to feel abandoned. But when you have people that you feel are on your side– people that understand your story, the warmth you feel is indescribable.
Ultimately, it is community that counts. To reach the people that need help and support them on their path is to build a community with a culture of lending a hand. We are both endlessly thankful for the people that have supported us on our journeys; there would be no us without them. We want everyone to find those special people that support them on their journeys, too.
We will be better together.
